App Applause
Apps (Applications) for Smartphones are all the rage these days. There’s an app for everything it seems. I read about one yesterday where you can order and pay for drinks and food to be brought to your seat when attending a concert or other event. Some of these seem downright silly, some are great time savers. And some are really important.
Take the Vision Simulator from the Braille Institute. Designed to allow people with healthy vision to see the world through the eyes of someone with degenerative eye disease, simulations include macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma and cataracts and also provides information on causes, symptoms and treatments. The image can also be saved to the phone’s camera for sharing with others.
If you have a family member or friend with one of these degenerative conditions download this free app and experience life through their eyes. Not only will you understand vision loss better but you may find ways to help.
